Transition
Preschool
- Every child is entitled to one year of funded 4 year old kindergarten.
- Early Childhood staff are in a great position to provide advice to parents about the best time for their child to start school.
Primary School
- All children must be enrolled in a school in the year they turn six
- Exemptions can only be granted the Regional Director.
- Through their final year at Primary School, Grade Six students and their parents are encouraged to go to the open days for all the secondary institutions they are interested in.
- Transition forms and information will be disseminated from the Primary School.
- Some schools may have supplementary information forms, if you are applying to a school that is not directly the closest to your home it is strongly suggested that you contact the school and ask if there are any other enrolment requirements.
Secondary Schools
- Students are entitled to a position at their local secondary school and must be enrolled in an educational facility until they are sixteen years of age.
- Schools are bound to supply a service to their immediate community initially and then accommodate other requests according to the directions in the Schools Reference Guide.
- Any exemptions must be requested in writing to the Regional Director who may grant them on behalf of the Minister.
