There are 74 primary and secondary schools with English as a Second Language programs.

English as a Second Language and Victorian Essential Learning Standards The English as a Second Language Companion to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards provides a framework for assessing student achievement. In general, the progress of ESL students should be recorded using these standards rather than the English standards.

The ESL Handbook This is a valuable resource in determining and addressing the learning needs of ESL students.

Support and Professional Learning Information on professional development can be provided by the ESL Project Officers. This includes a certificate course for mainstream teachers, staff meetings and curriculum days. Resources and additional assistance LMERC Lending Library Languages and Multicultural Education Resource Centre (LMERC) is a specialist resource centre for schools.   Foundation House Foundation House provides support for refugees and assylum seekers who have experiences trauma prior to their arrival in Australia.   Supporting Refugee Students Strengthening Outcomes provides information for schools about the range of resources available to support students from refugee backgrounds in Victorian schools.
