Achievement Improvement Zone

The Achievement Improvement Zone [AiZ] is a three – four year project charged with improving the literacy and numeracy achievement levels in fifty five Northern Region Schools.

The project will address School Improvement through intensive professional leaning to build the capacity of principals to lead and teachers to teach. The intent of the project is to change teacher practice.

 

Each school has formed a School Improvement Group [SIG] and nominated teachers to be Learning Leaders. The professional learning will build on the 2008 program delivered to Principals, SIG and Learning Leaders. The content of the professional learning has the same message for all ensuring a common purpose and clarity of intent.

Principal and Learning Leaders professional learning in 2009 will include

  • Prof David Hopkins – School Improvement Model
  • Prof Patrick Griffin –Understanding data
  • Prof Ramon Lewis – Behaviour
  • Prof John Munro – Literacy
  • Prof Peter Sullivan – Numeracy
  • Julie Boyd – Coaching

Ongoing support and professional learning offered:

  • Initial training for school literacy leaders in reading, writing, speaking and listening
    • to build literacy leader capacity
    • to deepen understandings
    • to use data to inform whole school practice
    • to manage change
    • Ongoing professional learning for literacy leaders and classroom teachers is offered on related topics

Information is made available to Principals through Regional Bulletins and to teachers via PDOnline
