Student Well-being

The Northern Metropolitan Region student welfare team objective is to provide high quality strategic support to schools within the region to implement programs relating to student wellbeing and student engagement. Wellbeing officers support teachers and schools and work with a regional project focus in the areas of:

 

Student Support Services
  • Student support services staff professional development
  • Student health and well-being initiatives
  • Student welfare teachers
  • School Focussed Youth Service (SFYS)
  • Secondary school nurses program
  • Drug Education initiative
  • Curriculum approaches that promote personal and social skills
  • Collaborative strategic projects with government and non-government agencies
  • Mandatory reporting and Child FIRST Referrals

Operation Newstart

Aim of Program
Operation Newstart allows students who are experiencing difficulties at school to engage in a high challenge, outdoor adventure program that assists them in reaching their potential. It gives students a unique opportunity to develop new skills and self confidence while accessing vocational links into TAFE and industry.

Target Group
14 years and six months to 18 years. Applicants must be enrolled in a Northern Metropolitan Region School and will continue to attend their school one day per week.
